Tiki Barber thinking about early retirement

ESPN reported that Giants star runningback Tiki Barber, graduate from UVa is considering retirement at the prime of his career. Why? To pursue off the field endeavors, particularly broadcasting. Personally, I think it’s too early for him to leave the game where he’s been very successful for the past several years but if he has a true passion for broadcasting and even other intellectual activities outside of football, more power to him. Barber intrigues me as one of the few players in the NFL who has unique intellectual passions that aren’t pertinent to athletics. So here is my question: Do prominent athletes retire early because they really think it’s time for them to leave the game, or do they retire as a way to gain attention that they may have not recieved in the past.
